Release 2010...

Last time it was individual, now it's communal:
What's your vote?

1. Work with International Justice Mission again like we did in 2008 and free women and children from slavery in Southeast Asia

2.  Raise awareness and money for kids orphaned by the AIDS epidemic in Africa

3.  Or, do you have an idea of something globally world-changing with an established organization?

  1. World Vision ACT:S is a really cool organization set up for this very thing. They deal especially with AIDS, hunger, and Malaria issues worldwide.

  2. Thanks for the link Alida! While I was looking at the World Vision site you pointed us to I saw this:

Greatest crisis of our time? 20 millions kids orphaned by AIDS by 2010?! That's huge, and AIDS is a hot topic on all sorts of levels, but I think that might be good.

    I pick #2, too.

  4. I like Alida's suggestion, mainly because i think we can connect with the NAU students better because they have an idea about what is going on and many non-christians also have a heart for this as well. - David

  5. I also have a #3 alternative: World Vision has a program in which money we donate provides a family or village with animals and clean water systems. Also, the organization supports 30 Hour Famine, which I think would be really awesome if a giant group from our chapter did it (although it's geared to youth groups.) We would be raising awareness, money, fasting together and could use some of the time to do volunteer things around our Flagstaff communtiy...just an idea :)

  6. I love number 2. I think that people know about what the aids epidemic is doing all over the world and people already care. It would be an awesome way to tell people that we as Christians care too, not only because God tells us too, but because we love people universally.

I like Alida and Jennifers too. :)

  7. My vote is for #2
Sex Slavery is a terrible injustice but I don't want people to grow deaf or hard to it.

  8. This is Anthony Mauldin even though it says anonymous, at least i think it says that.

I totally pick number two because i feel students will really rally behind that topic. And i know the founder of an organization called Hoops For Hope. All there money goes to helping AIDS in Africa, he has helped build schools, roads, and hospitals over there. He has such a heart for God and he said he would be willing to speak up here if we wanted to him to so that's really exciting news! I also think with his organization we could reach a larger base of people. Well yeah, that's my two sense, i'm really excited to see what God does with this! : )

  11. I would like to see more done with ending sex slavery. There are many more organizations to partner with in the valley compared to last year and great opportunities for us to get involved first hand.

  12. Hey!
So one of my ideas is about getting people pumped for Release 2010. So what would happen is that people would host movie nights about Africa or AIDS in their dorms/apartments. I know that I started really caring about what was happening in Africa after watching movies like Invisible Chidren, Invisible Children: Emmy (About AIDS), Hotel Rwanda, and Blood Diamond. You could provide popcorn and soda and then after the movie invite people to join Release 2010. Maybe there could be one in every dorm? Also, is there better documentaries talking about the AIDS epidemic?

I'd be willing to host a few! What do you all think?

  13. Hey I have an idea to raise awareness! There is a group called African Children's Choir and they go around (we can book them) and the kids sing at a local church or it would be pretty tight to have them preform somewhere on campus! All we have to do and I would be willing to head this area of the project up is get local churches to house them for about 2 nights. The choir sings to get awareness out and raise money. I know this isn't with World vision but I thought it might be a great idea to get people thinking when they see a whole childrens choir of true africa orphanes, might make it more real to people.
